The Teacher, Freida McFadden

Many people I know have read a book by New York Times Bestselling Author Freida McFadden within the past year. If you’ve never picked up one of her books, she mostly writes mysteries and psychological thrillers.

I previously read The Housemaid, her breakthrough novel, and a box office hit in December of 2025.

The backdrop of this scandal begins at a high school. Eve is a serious, stern math teacher, while her husband is a popular, handsome English teacher. They work at the same school. An inappropriate relationship certainly has a way of destroying lives, to say the least…

Should you read it?….MAYBE!

If you care about the writing, then no. In my opinion, it is not sophisticated; the characters are very underdeveloped. However, if you’re looking for a fun read with an unpredictable ending, then this is a good choice.

I knew this book was a thriller, and I was familiar with her writing style when reading The Housemaid. I wanted to take a breather and read something that wasn’t too deep or emotionally profound. I just wanted to be entertained. And I was. But I was taken aback by the superficial writing. That’s just me, though. Boy, can she punch you with a crazy ending, though!

Some fun facts on the author... Frieda McFadden is her pseudonym, and she sometimes wears a wig to hide her identity when she interviews for her novels. This is most likely because she is a physician and wants to maintain her anonymity.

I also love the fact that she and her family live in a century-old home in Boston, Massachusetts, with her black cat and several creaky staircases! Their house, which overlooks the ocean, is the perfect atmosphere to develop her ideas for her psychological thrillers!

I really enjoyed listening to her interview on Jenna Bush-Hager’s podcast, Open Book With Jenna. If you get a chance, take a listen.

As always, books are subjective. I may love it, and you may not, and vice versa. Whatever you’re reading right now, I hope you’re enjoying it!
