APRIL FOOLS!  Tomorrow is the big day. Are you ready for some harmless fun? I’ve pulled a couple of good April Fools’ Day jokes and have also been fooled. My oldest son Jonathan and I were pretty creative with our pranks. Before I share the fun I want to preface that as a young boy he was confident and intelligent. I knew he wouldn’t be traumatized by my joke.

When Jonathan was in 4th-grade, we socialized with his elementary school principal and his family. I pre-arranged the whole scenario with his principal, Mr. P, who is a kid at heart. He called him down to his office from the loudspeaker. He told Jonathan he didn’t get a good grade on his last social studies test and suggested he put more effort into his preparation. Then came the traditional whoop of “April Fools!” He was so relieved when he found out he actually received an “A” on his exam. They laughed like crazy! Jonathan actually praised me for a “joke well done” when he got home from school.

A couple of years later on April 1, he retaliated in a big way. When I went to my bedroom I was in shock.  Everything in my closet was full of everything from his closet! He swapped all my clothes, shoes, and many boxes from my closet to his. It was a very thought-out April Fool joke but also very labor-intensive. He spent the night putting everything back in its place!

To break up the monotony of everyday life, tomorrow is the day to have a smidgen of innocent fun! Keep your eyes and ears open and be alert to any strange schemes or stories.  Happy April 1st!
