When I was young, Mom and Dad went to dinner fairly frequently on Saturday night with friends.  That meant Mom didn’t cook a meal for us. We looked forward to it because that meant eating a TV dinner!

It’s been 50 years or so since Mom pulled back the foil on the tray, revealing the piping hot steam. I wonder what they taste like today? I thought I would find out!…

Honestly, I didn’t know if TV dinners still existed since I never thought about buying them for my own kids. Sure enough, I did find a Hungry Man. For $3.79, I got myself some chicken nuggets, mashed potatoes, corn, and that infamous brownie.  I remember Mom buying Swanson’s, but I didn’t see it in the freezer section. This will be quite the dining experience! Lol

 I popped the tray in the oven, following the directions on the package.  I was bummed that it wasn’t foil, but plastic. Then again, there is no foil on Ho-Ho’s or King Dongs anymore. Boy, times have changed.

Let’s face it, my expectations weren’t high. The four foods, from best to worst according to my palate, were as follows: brownie, corn, nuggets, and mashed potatoes.    

I was looking forward to the potatoes, but they turned out to be my least favorite. They had no flavor, and the consistency was like glue. The nuggets were ok. If I had crisped them up more, maybe they would have tasted better. 

The corn was corn, but needed seasoning. But the star of the show, just when I was like a little kid, was the brownie! It tasted homemade, gooey, and delicious! Some things never change! Three cheers for the infamous TV dinner brownie!     

What a fun 1970s blast-from-the-past interactive experience this turned out to be, all for under $4 bucks! And if you’re wondering, no, I didn’t eat everything. Just one bite of everything.
