According to perfectbrew.com, 62% of 40-59-year-olds drink coffee. I’m probably the minority in this group who sips only cold brew, not hot coffee.

I’ve learned that cold-brew is different from iced coffee. When making cold-brew, the process involves soaking ground coffee in cold water which makes for a smoother and lower acidity drink. Iced coffee is brewing double-strength hot coffee and then pouring it over ice.  It has a slightly bitter flavor and a medium-bodied taste.

Years ago I acquired and tweaked a great recipe for cold-brew.  At our house in Ohio, we make it regularly, except during the extremely cold months. It’s simple and delicious! Think about how much money you’ll save by not going through the drive-thru joint down the street! There are many gadgets available to make cold-brew and iced coffee but in our house, we keep it simple with just a few basic supplies.

To go along with this recipe, stay tuned to next week’s post for a fabulous addition to making your drink even tastier!

Supplies Needed:

-1-gallon glass jar

-a mesh straining bag

Homemade Cold-Brew Coffee

-1 cup ground coffee of your choice(If you like stronger coffee, you can add more)

-1-gallon cold water

Fill your jar or container with water. Pour the coffee grounds in the straining bag and tie tight.  Place the bag in the water. As the grounds get wet, they will slightly submerge. Keep on your counter for at least 24 hours. Remove and discard coffee grounds. You can wash the straining bag and reuse it. Pour your cold brew into a pitcher. Chill and enjoy!
