I haven’t been reading much in the last few months. There are a couple of reasons. The world feels very unsettled, and I’ve had difficulty concentrating.
Also, those who follow me on Instagram know we are building a new home. We have been in our house for 23 years, so I am spending most of my time lately purging and packing. FYI, we’re hoping to be moving in mid-July!
I’ve been thumbing through books, deciding which ones to donate and which to keep. I came across a book I gave my youngest for Christmas, titled Artists and Their Cats, by Alison Nastasi. He now lives in a small apartment in Chicago, so he had to keep some treasures behind for now, including this book. He’s an artist and owns a tuxedo cat named Carrot, so I felt this book was a great gift!
This is the perfect mini coffee table book. The first line in the introduction reads, “Every artist needs a muse, and every cat needs a human to rule over.” True.
Artists like Andy Warhol and Georgia O’Keeffe are featured with a photo of their cat, information about their work, plus other interesting tidbits of their lives. I bet you didn’t know John Lennon had a cat named Elvis?!
I’m secretly glad my son didn’t have room for it because it’s such a fun book! It’s quirky and creative, and there are artists I learned about for the first time.
Sometimes when you’re in a reading rut, it’s nice to step away and peruse through a book like Artists and Their Cats. It feels good to take a break from reading fiction. When I return, it will feel fresh, and I’ll have a new perspective. In the meantime, if you’re a cat person and enjoy art, this book is a hoot!
FYI, I will be pausing My Heart In Pen for a couple of months starting July 1. Moving is a high-stress life event. I love writing my blog, and I don’t want it to feel like a chore when we’re embarking on this new chapter in our lives. I’ll be posting more info soon!

I love a good coffee table book!
Good luck with the move! I hope all goes smoothly.

I love quirky books! And I absolutely love that your son’s cat is named Carrot—so cute!
I’m so excited for your new home! While I’ll miss seeing you in blogland for a bit, I can’t wait to hear all about it when you’re back. Sending lots of love your way! 💜

You would think Carrot is an orange tabby. He’s a black and white tuxedo..lol When he was a kitten he was obsessed with a toy carrot, and the name stuck! Ahh, you’re sweet! I’ll still be on IG and I’ll definitely be back in September! I can’t walk and chew gum at the same time and I certainly can’t move and write good blogs. It sure is a life change!

A cat named Elvis? I love that. What a fun book!! The purging thing is something else….I was so overwhelmed and I ended up getting rid of somethings that I wished I’d kept. Hindsight is 20/20! I’m so excited about your new house. Is it in the same town? Are you going to share pictures because bloggers love seeing how other people live!

Hi Suz..Thanks for your sweet sentiments. We’re so excited! Like kids waiting for Christmas! Yes, the purging is crazy. I’m not a “saver” but I still needed to slim down. Who needs 7 platters when it’s the 2 of us? Even when we entertain, we don’t need that many. We are moving, literally, the next street over..lol. So, we’re calling it a transfer, not a move. I will definitely be posting and have been on IG. I would love if you would follow me there! I post more there then anywhere.
