I know the calendar says December but I read an “edge on your seat” thriller back in Sept/Oct that I would love to share with you. If you’re like me and enjoy reading in season, please save this title to pick up next Halloween. It’s so spooky and is the perfect read during a rainstorm in the middle of the night. If you enjoy mystery books any time of the year, this is a great choice to grab now!
I enjoy reading a thriller at least one time a year and this one did not disappoint. Unfortunately, many books that claim they are scary or suspenseful did not foot the bill for me. This one certainly did. The New York Times Bestseller, The Sun Down Motel, by Simone St. James, is by far, one of the creepy books I’ve read.
The book is written from an alternative point of view, meaning the chapters switch between 2 characters, Viv Delaney in 1982, and Carly Kirk, her niece, in 2017. Vivian mysteriously disappeared from the roadside Sun Down Motel in Fell, New York, where she worked the night shift. Carly always wondered what happened to the aunt she never met and decided to pursue the mystery at the motel full throttle.
Get ready to experience an eerie motel, apparitions, physical phenomenons, strange motel guests, intrigue, and lots of twists and turns. I loved that many parts of the book gave me chills. I highly recommend this 343-page book. It kept me engaged menacingly. Since finishing the book, I have noticed several roadside motels when in my car and I get flashbacks of that frightening place and the uneasy feeling I got when reading The Sun Down Motel. So read it now or when the wind turns chilly and the leaves start to fall again. Whenever you decide to pick start reading this title, be prepared to stay up during the night reading. Oh, and make sure your doors are locked. Enjoy!
