The 177th Canfield Fair is only 6 days away! If you live in or near Canfield, Ohio, you know the drill. Grab your comfy shoes, cash, and go with an empty stomach. Can you guess my #1 reason for attending? The food, of course!
Our county fair only happens once a year so calories don’t count once you enter the gate. I love hearing the sizzle of the grills and the distinct food smells like french fries, sausage sandwiches, and cotton candy that are prevalent throughout the fairgrounds. What are your favorite go-to fair foods? Here are the treats I look forward to each year…
Our first stop is a corn dog from Ricci’s Kwiki. This family business has parked their trailer in the same location since 1948. In my opinion, as well as my nephew Danny, it’s the best one at the fair! Their unique signature is using a paintbrush to apply your condiments. Plus the coating on the dog is oh-so crispy! You should try one..or two.
In my eyes the fair marks the beginning of fall. That’s why one of my standard choices is an apple dumpling! I love to crack open the crispy buttery crust and let the warm apples and cinnamon sauce mix into the cold vanilla ice cream. It smells and tastes like my favorite season! My husband and I usually split all the treats we get. He’s not a huge fan so I get to enjoy this one on my own. Lucky me!
The last stop on our culinary adventure of junk food is either an elephant ear with cinnamon sugar or a Molnar’s Cinnamon Roll. It’s a flip of a coin and whatever we choose is a guaranteed winner. You can’t beat the soft sweet dough and the cozy taste of cinnamon incorporated in both sugary desserts. We always enjoy eating our final dessert after the sun goes down and the colorful blinking lights appear on all the midways.
No matter what your favorite unhealthy choices are as you peruse the hundreds of food trailers, savor every bite! Bon Appetit! It’s the best junk food of the year. Come visit our fair!

I haven’t been to the fair since my kids were in pre-school and they are soon to be 24 and 22. We lived on Raccoon Rd and would often times park at a friends house across the street from the fairgrounds or we walked Raccoon Road to Leffingwell Road and then through the parking lots to finally get to the gates. We were young and didn’t care about walking. Our meeting place was always the big rock by the grandstand. Family outings to the pony races and picking our favorites to win (no money), the demolition derby and the first concert I remember was either Doc Severinsen or Herb Albert. Then there were the Monkeys, Vince Gill, The Beach Boys and so many others over the years. We could sit out by our pool and hear the concerts. What a great way to end the summer.

Wow..such great memories! Isn’t the fair the best? I think you were friends with one of my sisters. I am the youngest Czuba sibling! My husband and kids (when they were little..) spent so much time in kiddie land..lol! My blog is eclectic but I do write about growing up in Canfield frequently. I would love if you would join my mailing list by leaving your email on my home page. Thank you so much for your sweet comment!
