-6 lbs of apples. I usually use 2 different varieties.
-1 cup apple cider
-juice of 1 lemon
-1 c dark brown sugar. Using brown sugar is also fine.
-2 TBS cinnamon
-Grated fresh nutmeg to taste. Fresh makes a huge difference in taste.
-½ tsp of ground cloves

-Peel, core and cut apples into chunks and place in a large stock pot.
-Add lemon juice, cider, and spices.
-Cook on low-medium with the lid on for about 30 minutes.
-Keep checking the apples until they are bubble and soft.
-Take them off the heat and mash them to your desired consistency. I use a potato masher. You can also use an immersion blender for smooth sauce.
-Let the sauce cool completely before transferring it into clean mason jars with lids. I freeze the jars until needed.

Fall flavors are bountiful! Apples are one of my favorites and I enjoy using them in recipes this time of year.
Last month I told my friend Giovana that I just made a batch of sauce and my recipe was so delicious and that she could find it on my blog. Well, it never made it on my site for 3 years since I’ve been writing. Whoops! So I’m thanking G for its official debut!
I love this recipe. It’s a cinch to make. If you have a good apple peeler it’s not time consuming like you might think. And boy does it make your house smell like a cozy, warm slice of fall! Honestly, although I listed measurements, you can add more or less spices depending on your taste or make it smooth with an immersion blender. Make it your own.
With Thanksgiving right around the corner, it’s a delicious side dish that goes perfectly with everything on your plate or a cute hostess gift when you put it in a mason jar. Give it a try! I guarantee you won’t have any regrets. Enjoy!
