In my childhood home, I have good memories of smelling toasted marshmallows over our crackling family room fireplace, the earthy aroma of fall leaves from our wooded backyard when we raked them in piles, fresh-smelling summer flowers that mom planted in the summer, and warm vanilla and spicy cinnamon wafting through our kitchen when mom baked. Perhaps that’s why I value the look and smell of candles each season to generate that feeling of contentment that completes a whole feel of a room.
Besides their scent, I enjoy decorating with candles because of the warm ambiance they create when lit and many are housed in beautiful vessels. When I walk into a room when a wick is flickering, it sets a peaceful tone. Your furniture looks softer, the lighting looks warmer, and your space reflects an intimate feel.
When putting the finishing touches on your room decor, candles are a perfect way to pull your room together. For me, decor incorporates more than just how a room looks, it has to merge several senses, including smell. When you’re comfortable doing some shopping, go sniff some candles that look pretty and bring you comforting thoughts. If you’re anything like me, the scent of a room is that small detail that makes a big difference between liking your space and loving your space enough so that you want to curl up, grab a book, relax, and stay awhile!
I love candles from 1820 Candle Company located in East Palestine, Ohio. They have the most beautiful scent combinations, a darling storefront, and shop. My favorite, at the moment, is “Vanilla Cardamom”, which you see in the picture. Check out their website to learn about them and to order their gorgeous candles! Follow them on Instagram too. The photos on their posts are absolutely charming! You can also find their candles in various locations in the area including Spruce Home Decor. P.S. I was not endorsed by 1820 Candle Company. I just love their stuff!
