Hello, April! Hello, spring! I always look forward to certain elements of the approaching season. At the same time, there are some things I can live without. Here are my most anticipated and dreaded characteristics of spring’s arrival:

I love the sounds of spring! The birds singing their songs in the early morning is my ideal alarm clock. It’s especially glorious if their songs are accompanied by the sun peaking between our bedroom mini-blinds. What a gentle and comforting way to start the day.

One of my most dreaded chores is switching my seasonal clothes and shoes. Grant it, I don’t have an overabundance of clothes in general, but I despise the process. There’s always a big mess. A large pile of winter clothes to wash. A pile to donate. The clean winter clothes then need to be stored. Winter shoes need to be cleaned up and put away in boxes. Don’t forget straightening up the shelves on my side of the closet and vacuuming thoroughly. It seems simple enough but it ends up being an all-day project. I detest it, but love my space when the task is complete.

In spring, I always look forward to new dinner recipes. Don’t get me wrong, comfort food is terrific, but when the calendar turns to April, I’m ready for more meals on the grill. I’m tucking my soup recipes away and excited for in-season veggies and lighter fare.

I’m not fond of spring smells. You would think my nose would interpret that spring has a fresh, invigorating, and rejuvenating scent. To me, spring smells like dirt, wet dogs, and worms. Enough said.

Call me strange, but I’m delighted when I’m driving on a sunny spring day and catch a red light. I open my window and have about a minute to feel the gentle rays of the sun on my face. There is nothing like the warmth of the spring sun. I appreciate it more than the oppressive and humid summer sun when I want to constantly run for shade. I quickly melt from the intense summer rays and feel my freckles multiplying.

Whatever season is your favorite, let’s embrace it together and appreciate all that it has to offer! Even if there’s a hint of mildew smell in the air..lol
