It’s almost a full week into 2022 already. Do you make New Year’s Resolutions? Looking back at my first post of 2021, I focused on self-care when we were at the height of the pandemic. I’m going to pat myself on the back because as I reflect, I felt I put self-care on the front burner with some pampering, better-eating habits, and somewhat of an exercise routine.
With that being said, I don’t wholeheartedly believe in resolutions. I’d like to coin the phrase, “New Year’s Focus” instead. No one is perfect. We all slip up. We shouldn’t throw in the towel just because we didn’t follow our original plan for a couple of days. Instead, I try to focus on a few concepts to adhere to without putting a ton of pressure on myself.
This year I want to continue to focus on my physical self by being mindful of what I eat, how much I eat and moving my body more. Did I eat potato chips in 2022 already? You bet! However, I didn’t eat the whole bag yet. I ate half. In my eyes, that’s being realistic. There is no way I will not ever eat candy or buttered popcorn this year but I will try to do it in smaller quantities and less frequently.
I also need to give myself permission to read more during the day. The natural light and my concentration are at their peak in the afternoon. Most of the time I feel guilty because I don’t work for a paycheck and after 10 pages my mind wanders to a load of laundry that I should probably get started. Sigh.
Be good to yourself this year. Work hard, but have fun. Give yourself permission to eat that piece of cake, but just not the whole cake. Happy 2022 everyone!

Judy, I think it’s so hard to give yourself permission to read during the day! I try,,,,,and then I always find something I “need” to do. For my mom, the kids, the grandkids, the house etc. One of my focuses for 2022 is to stop and read for pleasure during the day. I usually just wait until the end of the day and then I’m tired and the lighting is lousy! Happy New Year!

I 100% agree! I don’t have a job that’s attached to a paycheck (anybody looking for a part time freelance writer?..haha!) and Jack works from home. I feel guilty reading while he’s working! I think I need to work on just letting that guilt go! Happy ’22, Nancy, and thanks for reading and commenting on my posts!
