The Lion Women Of Tehran, by Marjan Kamali
If you’ve read my previous blogs about books I have read, you may know I love reading fiction about the Middle East. Iran seems so different from the US, yet so similar. People want happiness, freedom, safety for themselves and their families, and good health. I think it’s the different culture, language, and traditions of a country that attract me to these stories. All I know is I enjoy reading International Fiction, but did this title cut it for me?
The Lion Women of Tehran is a story about 2 little girls living in unsettled Tehran in the 1950s. Their friendship in the beginning is genuine and so sweet! But during and after the Iranian Revolution, circumstances drastically changed their relationship.
Should you read it?….YES!
If you are a fan of books about the simple premise of friendship and family, take a step out of your comfort zone, visit another country, and read this book. I always learn something new when reading about a different culture. I like to feel connected to women characters from across the world, especially since we strive for the same basic needs.
I started reading the book, then went on a short road trip, so I downloaded the audiobook to listen to as I drove. I ended up doing one of my new favorite things: I read along as I listened to the narrator read the story. It was lovely!
If you liked The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns, get this book! I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
Remember, books are subjective…

I still have this on my TBR! I don’t read much fiction, so I really need to start listening to audiobooks. This sounds like such an interesting book.

It is so good! Melanie read it and she loved it too! When I’m not in the mood to physically read, audio is great! This book is such a good story.
