With the start of 2021 comes overzealous New Year’s resolutions. I’ve made them and broke them. This year I’m going to coin a new phrase and call my plan a “New Year’s Concentration,” an effort to focus on something rather than making a firm decision.
I’m going to happily concentrate on physical self-care which, to me, means some pampering. Having a hair appointment on my calendar is something I always look forward to! It’s nice to indulge for a couple of hours and leave the salon feeling better about the way you look and feel. There is something to be said about a stylist washing your hair with fabulous smelling shampoo, giving you a good scrub and rinsing it with warm water, your worries of the day swirling down the drain as you close your eyes, sit back and relax.
My salon choice for years is Magnolias on the Green in Canfield, Ohio. The building is an old house transformed into a beautiful, cozy haven. The vestibule invites you in with big picture windows and a warm fireplace. As I enter, I’m always greeted like an old friend and immediately start to unwind. It’s a place that brings me a sense of calm and, quite frankly, it feels good for someone to take care of you and helps make you look your best.
If a haircut, manicure, pedicure, or massage makes you feel good and is within your budget, make an appointment to adhere to your “New Year’s Concentration”. It’s important to take time for ourselves so we can take care of those around us. I hope the first month of 2021 brings you hope, joy, and possibly a splurge on a fabulous new lipstick!
Hope you enjoy the photo above. It’s a picture of self-care at its best in the late 60s. Mom was washing my hair in the basement sink adorned by a couple of our old perm rods!
This post was not sponsored by Magnolias on the Green. I just like going there!

It’s a good one, right? ! I’m sure we washed our hair only once a week! Haha!

“New Years Concentration” really works for me too. I’m also going to focus on health and self care and try to make 2021 a good year!

Doesn’t concentrating on something sound more “do-able”?! I wish you and Bobby a great 2021! Thanks for commenting!

I remember my mom washing my hair in the sink! And it was not a daily ritual, seems like it was every few days or so. Thanks for your blog!
