Good Morning, and BOO! It’s October 31 and one of my favorite days of the year! I love fall, in general. The crisp cool days, colorful falling leaves, fresh apples, the warm smell of cinnamon, and, of course, Halloween candy!
Here’s what’s on my agenda for this spooky day….
Making chicken soup. When my kids were little, I started making a big pot on Halloween. Maybe subconsciously I was thinking about creating witch’s brew in a big cauldron over the stove? ..lol They were so excited to get their costumes on and eating a healthy dinner was not their priority. They would rather eat candy for dinner. Who wouldn’t? I get it. But eating a quick bowl put something healthy in their bellies, and warmed them up before going Trick-or-Treating. Even though my adult kids, who both live in a big city 6 hours away, won’t be joining us, there will always be a pot simmering on our stove on October 31.
Getting all the Halloween treats ready. Who else loves the smell of the candy when you tear open the bags? It always triggers a happy memory of when I was a young Trick-or-Treater and dumping my candy on our kitchen table. The scent of chocolate, wax, and fall leaves comes to mind. I have a big festive bowl I use every year and set it by our front door for the little ghosts and goblins that will stop by. I admit that I always do a taste test. Don’t you?!
Watch a spooky movie or two. I always need to scare myself silly one last time. Curling up with a blanket and maybe some popcorn is always the perfect way to round out the Halloween season. What’ll it be? Most likely John Carpenter’s original Halloween or a black-and-white old film like Dracula or Psycho. Yup, I’m a scary movie person.
What are you doing on this Hallows Eve to celebrate the season? Whatever you decide, have a fun and creepy time!
