Labor Day weekend has a certain emotional and physical feel to it if you live in Canfield, Ohio. It’s the weekend of our famous fair! It’s the largest county fair in the state and the third largest in the US and that makes us proud!
I experience the mental transition every year. It’s a mind-shift. We start saying goodbye to lazy summer days and hello to earlier sunsets. The days are still hot but we’ll soon hear school buses rumble down the street. There will be posts on Facebook about local high school football teams playing their first games. Families will be posting pictures in front of the Ferris wheel celebrating the last weekend before the first full week of the school year.
The Pumpkin Barn is one of our favorite stops. It’s a reminder that in a month, we’ll be searching for our pumpkins to carve into the perfect jack-o-lantern. At the fair, there’s an award for the heaviest one, as well as, a photo-op cardboard cutout of a smiling pumpkin where you can peek your head into his eyes. A classic keepsake!
Evenings at the Canfield Fair are magical when the amusement rides light the midway. Their bulbs blink all the colors of the rainbow. You can see fair-goers wearing hoodies at the first sign of a slight chill in the air. Some are ordering cups of coffee or taking home a local favorite, Molnar cinnamon rolls. A line of people snake around the tent as the smell of sweet dough and butter wafts through the air reminiscent of cozy fall vibes.
If you’re in the vicinity of Canfield, Ohio visit our fair! It’s the perfect way to celebrate the last taste of summer, literally, because there is so much good food, while we welcome the kiddos back to school. Fall is my favorite season so I’m looking forward to the progression into Friday Night Lights and bonfires..but first, let’s find a french fry stand! Happy Canfield Fair and Labor Day Weekend!
