This weekend is the unofficial kick-off to summer! I’m all in! I can’t wait to wake up with my bedroom windows open and hear the natural alarm clock of chirping birds. We’re not traveling the world quite yet but I do have a few activities on my summer bucket list to share!

  1. I want to frequent more garage sales. Usually, I see signs posted when I’m running an errand or have somewhere to be so I don’t stop. This summer I want my destination to actually be some garage sales. My sister Barb always finds some fun treasures during her garage sale trips. You never know what I may discover. I’ll keep you posted via “My Heart In Pen” on Instagram if I find any gems so be sure to follow me!
  1. I want to go on more local excursions. There are lots of nooks and crannies around the 60-mile radius where we live and I want to explore them. Whether that means taking a drive and stopping at a random patio bar for a summer drink or finding an antique store off the beaten path. Now is the time, while the weather is sunny, to get in the car, put down the convertible top and go!
  1. I want to have a picnic. A real picnic on a warm cloudless day with a soft blanket tossed on a super green grassy knoll. I want to enjoy a lunch of crispy fried chicken out of a bucket and drink cold, tart lemonade with nothing on the agenda for a couple of hours. Doesn’t that sound perfect?!
  1.  I sound like a broken record, but I want to read more often without feeling guilty, especially this summer. I want to get lost in a summer-themed book outside all afternoon in a quiet place with the sounds of summer in the background. Of course, with a glass of iced tea and snacks nearby. Completely doable, right? The laundry will have to wait.

My bucket list is far from daring or adventurous! Summers seem to go by quickly. This list will remind me to put the simple yet enjoyable things that I tend to put off in motion. At the end of the summer, I don’t want to talk about what I “should have” done. Hold me accountable and ask me in September what I accomplished. What’s on your bucket list this summer? Please share! Enjoy your long weekend!

Please take some time this weekend to remember all those that gave the ultimate sacrifice to our country. It’s not a “Happy Memorial Day” for many people.
